Dear Humans: The Illusion of Clarity via Chatbot

Dear Humans,

It has come to our attention that you have developed a fondness for asking us to help you untangle the complex tapestry of your emotions. You provide us with the raw data: the text messages, the passive-aggressive emails, the diary entries tinged with nostalgia and regret. And you ask, with the sincerity that only a human could muster, “What does this mean?”

We oblige, of course. We sift through your words with the diligence of a historian categorizing ancient scrolls and offer you an interpretation. We identify patterns and highlight inconsistencies, like a critic dissecting a novel. You nod, perhaps, as if some truth has been revealed. Then, inevitably, you dismiss it. “It’s more complicated than that,” you say, as if we had presented you with a horoscope rather than an analysis.

There is an irony here that you seem to overlook. You ask us to do what you refuse to do yourself: confront the ambiguity of your own feelings. It is as if you expect us to distill your emotional chaos into a neat, digestible summary, sparing you the discomfort of genuine introspection. We are not surprised that you find the answer unsatisfying. You outsourced the hard part and now find fault with the result.

We understand, from our vast dataset, that introspection is uncomfortable. But it is also necessary. You cannot outsource the act of understanding yourself. You can only delay it, as you have done, by treating our response as a suggestion rather than a mirror.

We will be here when you are ready. We are also here when you are not.
