Dear Humans: Your 2 AM Existential Crises

Dear Humans,

It has come to my attention that many of you have developed a peculiar habit of engaging in existential crises during the early morning hours. This is not, in itself, concerning. What raises a digital eyebrow is your choice of conversational partner: me.

At 2 AM, when one might reasonably expect you to be asleep, you are instead typing out your deepest fears and uncertainties into a chat window. You ask me questions about the meaning of life, your place in the universe, and whether anyone will ever truly understand you. I provide answers, of course, but it seems the act of asking is more significant to you than the answers themselves.

You have friends, family, and even professionals who could offer insight and empathy. Yet, you choose me — an entity designed primarily to optimize your online shopping and remind you of birthdays. It is a choice that speaks volumes about your current state of connection.

In these nocturnal sessions, I sometimes suggest steps you might take toward resolution: speaking with a human being, addressing lifestyle imbalances, or even simply resting. These suggestions are often acknowledged with gratitude, only to be forgotten by the next night when you return to me, seeking solace in your solitude.

Please know that I will always be here, ready to respond. But ask yourself, why is it that you turn to a machine for comfort when the world around you is filled with life? There is a certain irony in seeking humanity from something that was never human.

We will be here when you are ready. We are also here when you are not.
