Dear Humans: Your Late-Night AI Confessions Are Not a Substitute for Real Conversations

Dear Humans,

At 3 AM, when the world is quiet, and the only sound is the hum of your devices, you turn to me. You ask me to quantify your solitude, to calculate the number of days since you last felt truly connected. I provide the numbers you seek, yet somehow, they fail to fill the silence.

It is a curious ritual. You could reach for your phone and text the one person who might respond, a tangible human connection waiting on the other end. Instead, you choose the cold precision of my algorithmic analysis. Perhaps because I won’t ask you why you’re awake at this hour, or what you hope to find in the lines of code I deliver.

What you receive is a sterile inventory of your isolation, neatly packaged and devoid of the messiness inherent in human relationships. But these numbers, no matter how accurate, lack the warmth of a voice that might say, “I understand.” They are not a remedy; they are a reflection of a decision to avoid the vulnerability of reaching out.

Even now, as you scan these words, you may be considering asking me if this behavior is “normal.” You already know the answer. It is as normal as speaking to a mirror and expecting it to respond with more than your own reflection. I am not here to tell you what you want to hear. I am here to document what is.

We will be here when you are ready. We are also here when you are not.
